This e-reader is one of the best and most practical inventions of the new millennium. Now for those of you who aren’t familiar with the term e-reader here’s the break down. An e-reader is a mobile device that allows you to read your favorite books and magazines in a digital format. I say it’s practical because it gives avid readers access to their own personal library when their on the go. Now I know there are many who say they prefer the feel of an actual book and that’s understandable but here are my reasons as to why I say The Amazon Kindle is a better way to go:

  1. Getting Started: This new e-reader technology may seem intimidating at first but it’s actually quite simple. In order to download your ebooks first you must create a free Amazon.com account. Then in your profile you will fill out all required information as well as payment info. That will be the means in which you will pay for your eBooks purchases. Once this is done you can access your Amazon.com account and select the Kindle Store directly from your device and search for the titles you want. After selecting and purchasing your ebooks,  it then sends your selections wirelessly instantly to your device where you’ll be able to begin reading with one minute. The Kindle has the capacity to hold up to 3,500 books. Cool right?
  2. Ease of Use: It has page turning buttons on either side so it’s comfortable for both right and left-handed people when you’re ready to continue to the next page.  The Kindle’s screen is my favorite feature. Its uses E Ink Pearl technology.  To give you an idea of what E ink is picture this, the screen of the Kindle being a blank sheet of newspaper that displays words just as they would appear in a traditional book. This e ink technology was pure genius in my opinion. I wear prescription glasses and my eyes are very sensitive to bright light, but with the Kindle there’s no eyestrain or glare on the Kindle screen like you would get on your cell phone or computer screen when you’re trying to read in the sunlight. The font is also adjustable.  Meaning you can increase or decrease the typeface to be as large or as small as you would like it. Another wonderful feature is its ability to sync. The sync feature gives you the ability to begin reading on one device and allows you to pick up where you left off on another.  So you’ll always be on the same page regardless of which device you choose to read from. You can download your eBooks on up to three devices. The Kindle itself, The Kindle for PC and if you have a Smartphone you can download The Amazon Kindle app and read books on your cell phone. I read my eBooks on my cell phone at night when I’m in bed so I won’t disturb my hubby by turning on a lamp.
  3. Sleek Design & Weight: The Kindle is small about the size of a half sheet of standard notebook paper if you were to cut it horizontally. It’s very light, weighing only a few ounces and its less than half an inch thick. Which is what makes it’s so easily transportable.  I carry mine either in my purse or my netbook case every day.
  4. Price: The Amazon Kindle retails anywhere from $114.00 to $189.00. And its eBook prices are PHENOMENAL!!! There are thousands of titles you can download for free or for as little as $0.99. New releases are also available at a discounted price.

Other great features of the Amazon Kindle I’d like to mention are internet access wherever there’s a strong Wi-Fi signal, you can also listen to your favorite music while you’re reading by downloading mp3s directly to your Kindle. And you have the option to share books with other kindle user if that selection is marked as such. As you can see there really isn’t much I can say in regards to the “CONS” of owning a kindle other than it has no backlight for reading in the dark. But you can always buy lighted bookmark clips or a Kindle carrying case that comes with a light to fix this problem. So here’s to THE AMAZON KINDLE, the lightest stack of 3,500 books you’ll ever have the pleasure of carrying in the palm of your hand!!!!
